Canva Connector for ShareBuilder Assistant Skills

The ShareBuilder Assistant is expanding its creative workflow ecosystem with a Connector that brings Canva into the Assistant Skills platform. With the Canva Connector, media teams can start new design work from approved business events, upload ready-to-use images, organize creative work in folders, and connect Canva handoffs to CRM, campaign, sales, and operational workflows.

About Canva

Canva is a visual communication platform for creating presentations, documents, social media content, videos, websites, whiteboards, and other branded materials.

For media organizations, Canva can support advertiser concepts, campaign graphics, sales presentations, sponsorship materials, social posts, internal communications, event promotion, and other creative work shared across sellers, marketing teams, designers, and clients.

This is the Canva Connector

The Canva Connector brings selected Canva Connect API operations into Assistant Skills.

The current connector is action-based. It can create a blank design, upload an image to a user’s content library, create and retrieve folders, move a known item into a folder, and make an authorized Canva API request for advanced needs. It does not include Canva triggers, so a Canva workflow begins from another event such as a CRM stage change, an approved request, a form submission, a schedule, or a manual step.

Start creative work at the right moment

Create Design can open a new piece of creative work after an upstream business decision is ready for design. A Skill can create a Canva Doc, Whiteboard, or Presentation, or create a custom-size design using a specified width and height. The workflow can also give the new design a title.

This can support handoffs such as:

  • create a presentation after an advertiser discovery brief is approved
  • start a custom-size design when a digital campaign reaches creative production
  • create a whiteboard for a campaign-planning or brainstorm session
  • create a Canva Doc for a sales narrative, promotion outline, or internal brief
  • name a design from the advertiser, campaign, market, or opportunity context already stored in CRM

The action creates the design container; it does not build the finished creative. Authorized users still shape the content, apply brand standards, review rights and claims, and approve the work in Canva.

Bring approved images into Canva

Upload Image adds a base64-encoded image to the connected user’s Canva content library and returns the new image ID and name. This creates a controlled handoff for visual assets that originate elsewhere.

A Skill could upload:

  • an advertiser logo collected during onboarding
  • an approved product or event image attached to a campaign request
  • a station, market, or promotional image retrieved from managed storage
  • a generated image that has completed human review and rights checks

Workflows should validate the file, ownership, usage rights, and target Canva account. The guided action uploads images only; it does not upload video, manage asset metadata, delete assets, or place the image into a design automatically.

Keep creative projects organized

The connector includes three guided folder operations:

  • Create Folder creates a folder and can place it inside a known parent folder.
  • Get Folder retrieves metadata for a known folder ID.
  • Move Folder Item moves a known Canva item into a destination folder.

These actions can establish a predictable structure by advertiser, campaign, market, station, seller, quarter, or production status. A Skill could create a campaign folder, create the design, upload the advertiser’s image, and move the known items into that folder.

Folder and item IDs should come from trusted workflow data. The connector does not list folder contents, search for designs or assets, rename or delete folders, or resolve duplicate names. An item present in multiple folders may need to be moved in Canva rather than through the API.

Connect creative handoffs to the systems around them

Creative work often begins with briefs, dates, approvals, and source files held across CRM, email, forms, storage, project management, and campaign systems.

Assistant Skills can connect those moments. A workflow could begin when a ShareBuilder CRM opportunity reaches an approved production stage, create a clearly named Canva design and campaign folder, upload an approved advertiser image, and send the resulting IDs to the team responsible for creative production.

Another Skill could begin after a form or approval task, organize supplied assets, create the requested design size, notify the assigned designer, and record the handoff in the originating system.

The result is a cleaner path into production without treating automation as the creative director. Canva remains the place where people create and review the visual work; Assistant Skills coordinates the surrounding process.

Extend the connector for advanced workflows

Make API Call can send an authorized GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, or DELETE request to the Canva API and return the response status, headers, and body. This gives technically managed Skills a path to supported Canva operations that do not yet have a guided action.

Potential advanced needs include retrieving design metadata, listing folder items, exporting a completed design, or working with other supported Canva resources. Availability depends on the endpoint, user permissions, OAuth scopes, API limits, and feature maturity.

Advanced calls should be tested by qualified administrators and treated as supported only after authorization, inputs, outputs, limits, and failure handling are validated.

Keep brand, access, and approval controls in place

Creative assets may contain customer logos, licensed photography, unreleased concepts, or other sensitive material. Workflow owners should use the appropriate Canva account, limit access, and verify that each source file is approved for its intended use.

Production Skills should include clear naming rules, durable Canva IDs, duplicate-prevention logic, error handling for missing permissions or invalid files, and a human review step before creative is shared with an advertiser or published. Blank designs created through Canva’s API may be deleted if they are not edited within Canva’s stated retention window, so teams should not treat design creation alone as proof that production work has begun.

Assistant Skills

Skills are the workflows you train the ShareBuilder Assistant to run for your team. Create a Skill and the Assistant executes playbooks, coordinates processes, updates systems, and communicates across platforms automatically.

Availability

The current Canva Connector package supports six actions: Create Design, Upload Image, Create Folder, Get Folder, Move Folder Item, and Make API Call. It does not include triggers.

A Canva account and OAuth authorization are required. The connected user must have access to the designs, assets, folders, and other resources used by each workflow. Canva permissions, granted scopes, API rate limits, and product-plan requirements still apply.

The guided connector does not include template or brand-template autofill, copying an existing design, design search or listing, design retrieval, export or download, comments, sharing and permissions, collaboration events, folder-content listing, asset updates or deletion, video uploads, or bulk operations. Some supported operations may be reachable through Make API Call after separate technical and permission validation.

Connector availability within Assistant Skills depends on ShareBuilders installation, testing, OAuth configuration, rollout, and customer enablement. Presence in the upstream connector library does not by itself confirm production readiness for a specific customer.
