The ShareBuilder Assistant is expanding its research and intelligence ecosystem with a Connector that brings Perplexity directly into the Assistant Skills platform. With the Perplexity Connector, teams can add current, web-grounded research to workflows, return source citations with the result, and pass approved findings into CRM, planning, communication, and content processes.
About Perplexity
Perplexity is an AI-powered answer and research platform. Its API platform provides online models that search the web and generate responses grounded in current sources.
For media organizations, Perplexity can help research advertisers and prospects, summarize market developments, prepare background for sales conversations, identify local trends and events, compare competitors, support fact-checking, and gather sources for briefs or content planning.
This is the Perplexity Connector
The Perplexity Connector brings guided web-grounded search into Assistant Skills.
Teams can send a prompt to Perplexity’s Sonar models, provide system instructions, continue a research conversation, control selected generation and source-domain settings, and receive the generated result with citations and token-usage details. An advanced action can make an authorized Perplexity API request when a supported operation is not represented by the guided search action.
The current connector is action-based. It does not include Perplexity triggers, so workflows should begin from another Assistant Skills trigger, a schedule, a form submission, a CRM change, an approved process step, or another connected event.
Research current questions with cited sources
The Perform Search action sends a search prompt to Perplexity and returns a model-generated response grounded in online sources.
The guided action currently supports the Sonar and Sonar Pro models. Sonar is intended for efficient, web-grounded answers, while Sonar Pro can be used when a workflow needs broader or more detailed research.
A Skill could use this action to:
- build a current advertiser or prospect brief before a sales call
- summarize recent news about an account, industry, market, or competitor
- identify local events, seasonal opportunities, and community developments
- research changing regulations, consumer trends, or category conditions
- gather current context for campaign planning and creative ideation
- prepare a sourced background brief for a meeting or approval
- support fact-checking before information is used in customer-facing work
The response includes the generated result, citation URLs, model and response identifiers, a completion status, a created timestamp, and prompt, completion, and total token counts. Those outputs can be saved, routed for review, or used by later steps in the Skill.
Citations make the sources inspectable, but they do not guarantee that the generated summary is complete or correct. Teams should review the cited material before using research in customer communications, pricing, contracts, legal or regulatory decisions, or other high-impact work.
Guide the research and continue a conversation
Workflow builders can provide system instructions that shape how Perplexity responds. For example, a Skill could ask for a concise executive brief, require a neutral tone, request a comparison table, or instruct the model to identify uncertainty and cite every material claim.
A conversation ID can be supplied to continue research across later prompts. The connector saves the response associated with that ID so a subsequent step can build on the earlier exchange.
This can support a sequence such as:
- create an initial market or account overview
- ask a focused follow-up about competitors or recent developments
- request implications for a media seller or campaign planner
- produce a final brief after a human reviews the supporting sources
Conversation IDs should be scoped carefully. Reusing the same identifier across unrelated accounts, customers, or workflows could mix context that should remain separate.
Control model output and source domains
The guided action includes optional controls for maximum output tokens, temperature, top-k sampling, top-p sampling, frequency penalty, and presence penalty.
These settings can help administrators tune response length, consistency, repetition, and variation. Most business workflows should begin with stable, conservative settings and change only one sampling control at a time after testing.
The connector also provides Search Domains and Ignore Domains inputs. These can limit citations to selected domains or exclude selected domains. The current connector guidance describes comma-separated lists of up to three domains and notes that domain filtering requires an eligible Perplexity API usage tier.
A Skill could use domain controls to:
- prioritize official government, regulatory, customer, or trade-association sites
- restrict a research brief to approved industry publications
- exclude low-quality or irrelevant sources
- compare a company’s own public claims with independent coverage
Domain controls narrow the search space; they do not independently validate a source’s accuracy, authority, recency, or suitability. Workflow owners should test the actual results and periodically review approved-domain lists.
Use an authorized Perplexity API call for advanced needs
For technically managed workflows, the connector includes an action that can make an authorized request to the Perplexity API using an endpoint path or full URL, HTTP method, headers, query parameters, and a JSON request body.
The action supports GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, and DELETE requests and returns the response status, headers, and body.
This provides flexibility for provider-supported Perplexity API capabilities that are not represented by the guided Perform Search action. Actual availability depends on the current Perplexity API, the connected account’s access, model availability, API credits, request limits, and the endpoint being used.
Because this action exposes a broader API surface, it should be configured by qualified administrators. Each advanced workflow should validate the endpoint, model, payload, response schema, cost, error handling, and data-governance requirements before production use.
Connect research with CRM, planning, and communication
Perplexity becomes more useful when research can enter the workflows where teams make decisions and coordinate work.
Assistant Skills can combine Perplexity with ShareBuilder CRM, email, Microsoft Teams, forms, approvals, work-management tools, publishing systems, and other connectors.
A workflow could begin when a high-value opportunity reaches a selected CRM stage, ask Perplexity for a current advertiser and category brief, route the response and citations to a seller for review, and save the approved summary back to the opportunity.
Another Skill could run on a schedule, research current market or industry developments, send a sourced digest to a team, and create follow-up work only after a person confirms which findings matter.
This helps teams add current external context to repeatable processes without treating AI-generated research as an automatic decision.
Protect sensitive information and require review
Prompts sent to Perplexity are processed by an external AI service. Workflow owners should not include confidential customer information, personal data, unpublished pricing, credentials, contract details, or regulated information unless ShareBuilders and the customer have approved that use.
Research results may change as the web, model behavior, and source availability change. Skills should preserve citations when findings are stored or shared, include the research date when recency matters, and provide a human-review step before high-impact or customer-facing use.
The connector is designed to support research and workflow coordination. It should not be presented as a substitute for professional legal, financial, medical, regulatory, or editorial judgment.

Availability
The Perplexity Connector supports two authorized actions: Perform Search and Make API Call.
A Perplexity API key and an API account with available credits are required. Provider model availability, usage tiers, request limits, and pricing apply.
The current guided connector supports Sonar and Sonar Pro. It does not include Perplexity triggers, a guided standalone Search API action, guided Deep Research or Reasoning model choices, file upload or document analysis, image or video generation, or provider-agent actions. The advanced API action may support selected current Perplexity endpoints after separate validation.
