Radio Forecast Observations

Q4 Local

Week-to-Week Pacing Changes

Our stations had a rather up-and-down week in Local Q4 this week, ultimately seeing no change in pace Monday to Monday.

  • October actually added a tenth of a point, and November three-tenths, but December lost 0.7 points.
  • Categories having a more positive week include: the South and Midwest, markets 21+, and News/Talk/Sports and Urban formats.
Forecast Updates

The way money came in in Q3 continues to suggest that Q4 might be stronger, or perhaps that it’s just earlier. With that uncertainty, and only being 2 days into the quarter, we’re going to hold our current forecasts. In a week or two we may have more clarity that things are indeed stronger. The forecasts stay at:

  • -11% for October
  • -8% for November
  • -8% for December
  • -9.3% for the quarter

Q4 National

Week-to-Week Pacing Changes

National had a down week, with the quarter’s pace dropping 0.6 points.

  • Not surprisingly, against 2018’s political October lost the most points – 2 – while November added 1.4 and December 1.9.
  • Only a handful of categories saw growth in October this week: the West, News/Talk/Sports, and Female-oriented formats.
Forecast Updates

National Q3 looked a bit on the earlier side, so we are going to assume that Q4 is similarly early. Not just early against the late-due-to-political 2018, but also early against other years as well. As such, we’ll stay with the conservative October and November forecasts, and the much stronger December:

  • -29% for October
  • -20% for November
  • 12% for December
  • -15.1% for the quarter

Q4 Local + National

We should expect a down quarter against the strong political of 2018, but perhaps things will be a point or two stronger than the -11.4% we’re forecasting for Local+National Q4 combined. We’ll let you know when we feel good about that possibility.

Enabling or Disabling ShareBuilder Access

It is important to keep your consultant up to date with any changes that need to be made to login credentials for your current or former employees. If a new hire needs credentials, reach out to your consultant with the employee’s first and last name, as well as an email address. The employee’s title and phone number are helpful as well, but not required. In the event that an employee with login credentials leaves your station, inform your consultant as soon as possible so they may remove the credentials associated with that employee. If an employee forgets their password or has trouble logging in, your consultant can create a password reset to get them back up and running in the system. It’s a good idea to check your list of employees with access to ShareBuilder a few times a year, so please talk to your consultant about any concerns or changes that need to be made.
